While those women living at Glory House may share a common denominator in having one or a combination of disabilities, Glory House offers a challenging program that we base on individual needs. Our residents share the collective basic needs of meals, room and board, laundry facilities and telephone services. All of our residents have access to support services, as well. But our most unique offering is that, even in a group style home, each woman can dictate her individual need and recovery steps. Staff at Glory House helps to guide individuals through the process of maintaining a healthy, responsible and productive relationship with society. Through partnerships, we are able to expand our offerings to clients. Programming and counseling services are key to the success and graduation of the women who participate in this program. However, our programming operates and survives entirely on the volunteerism of its own staff, friends, contributions, resident fees (these fees support house maintenance, provide clothing, food, etc.), and community supporters. Ongoing help is provided in such areas as health, housing, employment, life-skills and education while living in a structured environment. We have two programs available to the women in Wake County: a transitional community housing program and a single-room occupancy (SRO) facility. Women at the community housing program are allowed to reside with us 24-hours-a-day, for a period of eight months to two years—depending on individual need and readiness to rejoin society. Our SRO facility has four units allocated specifically for permanent housing. Currently, two of the women living in the SRO facility are living with HIV/AIDS. Residents at both of our locations are required to participate daily in drug/alcohol counseling and community reintegration programming. Participation provides access to relapse prevention techniques, support and counseling. Many area churches are involved and provide community speakers and volunteers to provide ministry, counseling, career workshops, and educational seminars at no cost. But while our clients flourish from and the programs depend upon the efforts of community speakers and volunteers, Glory House is still dependent on client fees and grants that provide funding for housing rent, utilities and grounds maintenance. Our greatest goal is to get these women off the street and offer them a hope of regaining dignity and self-esteem, while guiding them to gain empowerment through education and knowing someone in the world cares what happens to them. We offer a safe, controlled environment for our residents to heal and make strides in learning to live again. |
